• How you shouldn't hug anybody when your name is announced because you're running out of time. They give you all these tips about what you should and shouldn't do should you win. We found it hilarious. It was great to watch it. We didn't know this kind of thing existed!
• I actually don't know. I don't know what happened, to be honest. I know that Colin Farrell was a huge supporter. He was so great. He came to rehearsals at 9 a.m. to say hello and say he'd be supporting us there that night. He was so great and friendly, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did, but I honestly don't know.
• I also hear that maybe the director of the show was the one who called it, or maybe it was Jon Stewart who called. All I know is that Jon Stewart came up to me and said "let's get you back on stage." But who took the initiative? I don't know.
• I don't know if it works that way. People are joking about the way you just wave the gold statue and all the doors open, but that's just such a weird concept.
• I know, it's mad. I don't even remember John Travolta, to be honest. I mean, I remember him walking onstage and announcing us, opening the envelope. I remember him giving us statues. But after that I don't remember nearly anything.
• It's amazing, but people immediately start taking photographs and trying to weigh them. Somehow those little statues just radiate so much power or something. It's funny.
• No. I thought we'd be so nervous performing that song, and that I would be shaking all trough the song. That's what I expected. It's a big deal! But I was very surprised by myself. I kept waiting for the nerves to hit, and they didn't. It was just really enjoyable to be part of that, even when I went on stage.
• Of course, there's this unspoken thing that you have to wear a tux and some kind of nice dress. There are all these ethical rules, but I'm sure if you came to the Oscars in ripped jeans and a t-shirt they wouldn't throw you out. You would just look like a fool.
• Oh, I know. I was going to go onstage and say, "It's great to be here, this is for the indies!" But we were laughing in the dressing room. We are indie, and that's where we come from.
• Playing for all those people in the room, looking at all the people with their fingers crossed for us. I was just so happy. When we went on stage after our names were announced, I was just so full of joy and so excited. We had agreed that if we went up there, Glen would be the one to get to say something. That was OK with me.
• So when they asked me to go back on stage and make my speech, I actually didn't have anything prepared. It was kind of a mistake, really. I had honestly just leaned forward to say thank you, with this big screen in front of me counting down the time and saying "wrap it up."
• There's no place to put it! I didn't have purse or anything, so you just carry it until you go home and put it on your table or something. We went to a party, the Fox Searchlight party, after the Oscars.
• We haven't, actually. We haven't seen There Will Be Blood, and Sweeney Todd.... We came here thinking we'd go to the cinema and see all the films before the Oscars so we'd know who to root for, but we ended up so busy we didn't see any of them.
• We made the film for our friends and ourselves, and we made it without the big studios. Because it has that kind of an edge, people accepted it and thought it was worthwhile. But our film is nothing compared to, for example, Juno. Juno was claiming to be an indie film, but it grossed so much more than our film!
• We were invited to the Governor's Ball, but we brought ten people over for this thing. When you're 12 people instead of two it gets hard, and we wanted to be with all our folks. So we went to the Fox Searchlight party and just put the two Oscars down on a table.
• Well, before the Oscars they give all the nominees this DVD, which is basically a short film with Tom Hanks giving you tips on what you should do and shouldn't do. When it comes to speeches, he says don't make a big list of people to thank, because the people you name will be delighted but the rest of the people will be bored.
